Croft Mill

The History of Croft Mill - The Original Mail Order Fabric Company

The Early Years

Croft Mill UK Ltd comprises all the good old names of mail order fabrics. J. W Coates, Bradley Textiles and of course Croft Mill itself. We go way back to when a good night out cost less than 10 ‘bob’ and fabric remnants were sold in bundles. When there was a mill at the end of each street in this part of Lancashire and tripe and onions were part of the everyday diet; not on a Michelin starred menu.

Bradley textiles started in 1927 so that gives you an idea of how old this business is. Croft Mill is the original mail order fabric supplier. A family business run by 2 brothers, Alan and Trevor. Long before the age of the internet we supplied tens of thousands of home sewers and businesses sending out all manner of fabrics, chosen from Alan's much-loved catalogue.

The Digital Age

In April 2008 after 35 years at Croft Mill in Foulridge, Alan retired and Croft Mill closed its doors. By chance and not long after, Alan’s daughter Caroline decided to revive Croft Mill when she lost her job on maternity leave. No stranger to the industry and with over 10 years experience designing fabrics and travelling extensively to oversee fabric production, she thought there was an exciting opportunity. So, with babe in arms the new chapter of Croft Mill began and its virtual doors opened in May 2009.
