Description

Every wardrobe should include a cosy coat, and this pattern for an expansive, low-calf length Overcoat is the ideal choice. Its straightforward, unlined design, featuring built-in sleeves with a dolman-like style and a unified front placket, ensures a speedy and hassle-free sewing experience. The generous fit of this coat accommodates layering over bulky winter attire while maintaining a stylish appearance.

The collar offers versatility, as it can be fastened for a warm stand-up look or laid flat for a more casual vibe. The substantial front placket allows for buttoning in either direction, offering the option to use eye-catching novelty buttons or a more understated choice. You can also opt for sizeable snaps or even button-and-loop closures or frogs for a unique touch.

The wide sleeves extend almost to the wrists, terminating in a broad and deep cuff. For an intriguing or dramatic flair, consider crafting the cuff and/or collar from contrasting fabric or even luxurious fur. The capacious pockets are not only a practical addition but also an opportunity for decorative embellishments or the use of contrasting fabric, adding an extra layer of charm to your Overcoat.

Recommended Fabric

Being a trained tailoress I found this pattern very easy to construct and value for money. I love the shape and of course it matters what fabric as how it hangs. I used a navy all wool melton, which worked vey well, I also lined it, which was also very easy. the only alteration I made was to the neck line which I felt was cut too high. I altered it by about an inch which meant I could wear the coat with the collar buttoned up.
