Fabric Remnants

Fabric Remnants

Our fabric remnants are the last of the roll: single, ready-cut pieces at reduced prices, spanning every fabric type we stock. Each one is a fixed length, from around half a metre to a few metres, printed in the product title, so what you see is what you get. There's one of each, stock changes constantly, and once a piece has sold, it isn't coming back.

A remnant here isn't a bag of scraps. It's a clean, ready-cut length of the same cloth we sell by the metre, held back at the end of a roll and priced down because there's a finite amount of it. Some come from lines we no longer stock, some are deadstock, and some are simply what was left when a roll ran out. Whatever the reason, each piece exists once. When it's gone, it's gone.

That's the one real difference between this collection and the rest of the shop, and it's worth understanding before you buy.

How buying a remnant works

Everywhere else on the site you pick a fabric and we cut the length you need. Here the length is already decided. It's printed in the product title, and you buy the piece exactly as it is. Remnants can't be cut down, combined with another piece, or reordered once they've sold. So if a project needs more cloth than a single remnant offers, you're better off choosing from the full by-the-metre fabric ranges instead, where the same quality of cloth is cut to your measurement.

What to make with a short length

Remnants suit the makes that never needed a full roll to begin with. Patchwork and quilting is the obvious home for them, and a varied stash is far cheaper to build this way. Children's and baby clothes rarely take more than a metre or two. A remnant is also the sensible choice for a toile when you're testing a new pattern for fit, before committing to the fabric you actually want. Then there are accessories: bags, scrunchies, bunting, bibs, pouches. And on a larger garment, a short piece still earns its place as a lining, a facing, a pocket bag or a colour-blocked panel.

Stock changes week to week

Because every piece is a one-off, this collection looks different most times you visit. Fabrics appear as rolls run down and disappear as they sell, and nothing here gets restocked. There's no waiting list and no back order. It's worth a browse whenever you're planning something small, and worth buying the piece when you find one you like, because the next visit it very likely won't be there.

Are remnants sold by the metre?

No. Each remnant is a ready-cut set piece of a fixed length, shown in the product title, and you buy the whole piece as it is. They can't be cut to a custom length like our by-the-metre fabrics.

Can I order more than one length of the same remnant?

Each piece is a one-off, so it can't be cut to order or combined with another. If your project needs more than a single piece provides, it's best to choose a full-length fabric from the main ranges instead.

Are remnant fabrics lower quality?

No. They're the same quality cloth we sell by the metre, reduced because they're end-of-line, deadstock or the last of a roll, held in limited lengths. It's simply a way to buy good fabric cheaper when you don't need a full length.
