Pink is far more versatile than it gets credit for. A dusky rose or blush reads soft and grown-up, a coral lifts a summer wardrobe, and a hot pink or fuchsia makes a statement, all from the same corner of the colour wheel. Types of pink fabric

Pink cotton fabric is the everyday starting point. Poplin and lawn are crisp and breathable for blouses, summer dresses and children's clothes, whilst printed quilting cottons suit craft and patchwork.

Pink chiffon, satin and crepe are the occasion fabrics. Silk and polyester chiffon float for overlays and eveningwear, satin reflects light cleanly for occasion dresses and linings, and crepe drapes fluidly for fitted styles.

Pink viscose is soft, fluid and easy to wear, a go-to for relaxed dresses, blouses and wide-leg trousers.

Pink jersey is the comfortable, stretchy choice for t-shirts, fitted dresses and loungewear.

Choosing pink fabric

Pink is one of the harder colours to judge on screen, as undertone matters as much as the shade: a blush with a warm peach note sits very differently next to a cool, blue-based pink. If you're matching to a pattern, trim or an existing piece, order a sample and check it in daylight first. For occasion sewing especially, where pink can shift under evening lighting, a sample takes the guesswork out. Always follow the individual product's care guidance, as this varies by fabric.
