Elastic for Sewing

Elastic for Sewing

Elastic does the quiet work in a garment. It holds a waistband up, keeps a cuff sitting where it should and lets a neckline pull on over the head without a zip. This collection covers flat elastic from 3mm to 50mm in white and black, round elastic cord in a range of colours, soft knitted knicker elastic, buttonhole and clear elastic, and elastic sewing thread for shirring.

What is the difference between flat and round elastic?

Flat elastic is most commonly used in waistbands, cuffs and garment casings. Round elastic is often used in drawstrings, face coverings, toggled cords and lightweight projects where a thinner elastic cord is needed.

Can elastic be sewn directly onto fabric?

Yes. Many elastics can be sewn directly onto fabric or enclosed within a casing. The best method depends on the garment, fabric type and the finish you want to achieve.
