What Can You Make with Viscose Dress Fabric?

Viscose dress fabrics are particularly well suited to garments that rely on drape and movement. Popular choices include wrap dresses, shirt dresses, blouses, skirts, wide-leg trousers and co-ords. The fluid nature of viscose allows patterns with gathers, pleats and soft shaping to sit beautifully.

If you are looking for a fabric that feels light yet substantial, viscose is often a reliable option.

Sewing and Caring for Viscose

Viscose can shift slightly when cutting, so laying fabric flat and cutting in a single layer can help with accuracy. A fine universal needle works well for woven viscose, while stretch needles are best for viscose jersey. Finishing seams neatly will improve longevity, as viscose can fray more than some other fibres.

We recommend pre-washing before sewing, as viscose may shrink slightly on the first wash. Wash garments on a cool, gentle cycle and press on a low heat while the fabric is still slightly damp for the best finish.
