With the new series of The Great British Sewing Bee just around the corner, we’ve been reminiscing about the standout makes from Season 10: the clever details, the bold fabric choices, and the creativity that had us shouting “YES!” at the telly every Wednesday night.
If you’re like us, the Sewing Bee isn’t just a show - it’s a source of inspiration and motivation. So before the next wave of challenges, transformations and drama begins, let’s revisit three memorable garments from last year’s season and suggest how you might sew your own version.
The Classic A-Line Skirt
One of the timeless makes from Season 10 was the beautifully constructed A-line skirt. Flattering, wearable and oh-so-versatile. Whether colour-blocked or made from a bold print, this wardrobe staple showed off clean lines and crisp finishes.
Make Your Own:
Pair a simple A-line pattern with one of our lightweight denims or bold printed cottons. Add topstitching in a contrast thread for a professional finish.

The Grainline Studio Reed Skirt Pattern is a fabulous A-line skirt with versatile pocket and closure options. We recommend mid-weight fabrics such as twill, denim, corduroy and linen.

The Casual Day Dress
Season 10 also featured a casual day dress make, the kind of thing you want to wear from brunch to garden pottering. We loved the ones with gentle shaping, patch pockets and sweet neckline details.
Make Your Own:
Go for a soft, breathable fabric like linen blend, viscose or cotton chambray for that perfect drape. Look for patterns with simple silhouettes that let the fabric shine.

The Sew House Seven Sauvie Sundress Pattern is the ultimate go-to simple summer make that combines comfort, ease and style. We recommend lightweight woven fabrics that aren’t too thick or stiff, such as linen and linen blends, cotton lawn and viscose. Stable fabrics such as cotton lawn may result in a tighter fit at the upper bust.

The Sporty Pullover
We can't forget Sports Week. It was all about clean finishes, functional design and the perfect balance of style and comfort: think zips, funnel necks and colour blocking.
Make Your Own:
This is your chance to get creative with loopback jersey, French terry or even a stretch ponte. Try bold colour combinations or keep it classic with neutrals and textured solids.

The Maison Fauve Ressac Sweatshirt Pattern captures all the best features of a stylish sweatshirt: a balanced fit, comfortable length and sporty raglan sleeves. Maison Fauve’s signature touches elevate the design, including decorative darts at the front neckline, structured side panels with ribbing and a seamlessly integrated patch pocket.
We recommend sweatshirt fabrics like jersey, French terry or sweater knits, paired with ribbing. The side yoke and under-sleeve can also be made from sweatshirt fabric. For the best fit, keep the collar, bottom band and cuffs in ribbing, or adjust the pattern to match your fabric’s stretch.
