Faithful to the Fabric: Celebrity Traitors Wardrobe

Croft Mill |

There's a lot to be suspicious of in The Celebrity Traitors, but Claudia Winkleman's wardrobe certainly isn't one of them. Between the dramatic entrances, tense Round Tables and rather questionable loyalties, her outfits have become a spectacle in their own right.

This series has given us everything we love about autumn dressing: beautifully tailored wool suits, traditional Scottish tartans, practical waxed jackets and just the right amount of theatrical flair. And while we can't promise a Scottish castle or a seat at the Round Table, we can help with the fabrics.

We've picked out some of our favourite looks from Claudia's Celebrity Traitors wardrobe, along with fabrics and sewing patterns to help you put your own spin on them.

A Twist in the Tweed

Claudia Winkleman's heritage-inspired wool tweed tailoring in Celebrity Traitors

Few people can make a traditional three-piece suit look quite as effortlessly cool as Claudia. Her rich brown tailoring, crisp shirt and tie have all the makings of a classic country gentleman's outfit, yet somehow the finished look feels wonderfully modern.

It's a reminder of just how versatile good wool tweed can be. We love the idea of a structured blazer with matching wide-leg trousers, or perhaps a waistcoat worn with jeans for something a little less formal. Earthy browns, forest greens and traditional checks all work beautifully for this look.

The Blazer: A Faithful Investment

There's something particularly satisfying about making a jacket that you'll wear for years. If Claudia's sharp tailoring has tempted you to try your hand at a blazer, the Closet Core Jasika is a brilliant pattern to consider.

With its classic lapels, fitted silhouette and traditional tailoring details, it's just the thing for recreating that beautifully put-together look. Choose a wool tweed for something distinctly country-house, or a fine suiting for a smarter, more understated version. A project worth taking your time over, and one you'll be rather pleased to say you made yourself.

A Waxed Jacket Never Betrays

If there's one garment that belongs in the Scottish Highlands, it's a proper waxed cotton jacket. Claudia's outerwear has become every bit as recognisable as her fringe, and we're particularly fond of the relaxed, practical jackets she wears over chunky knitwear and casual trousers.

Traditional British Millerain waxed cottons are ideal for recreating this sort of country-inspired outerwear. They're made for jackets that can cope with a little British weather, and the finish develops character with wear. For a contemporary take, we'd look at the Merchant & Mills Landgate pattern, with its easy shape and practical detailing.

Not every outfit needs a tailored jacket to make an impression. Some of Claudia's best looks are built around a pair of generously cut trousers, tucked into boots or worn with an oversized jacket. They're practical, a little unconventional and a very welcome change from anything too neat and fitted.

For this sort of silhouette, a good cotton twill is hard to beat. Look for something with enough body to give those wide legs their shape, while still being comfortable to wear. Our Abruzzi Twill in Airforce is a lovely option, while navy velveteen would bring a richer texture to the look. The True Bias Lander trousers are a great starting point for sewing your own version.

Checks, Please! Claudia's Tartan Obsession

Three Celebrity Traitors outfits featuring Claudia Winkleman wearing tartan and checked garments

Would it really be a Claudia Winkleman wardrobe without a little tartan? Against the dramatic backdrop of the Scottish Highlands, her checked skirts and layered outfits feel completely at home. The brilliant thing is that she doesn't treat tartan as something reserved for traditional dress. It's mixed with black knitwear, sturdy boots and oversized jackets, giving those familiar checks a completely different attitude.

And there's plenty of scope for sewing your own interpretation. A pleated tartan skirt is an obvious favourite, but a checked pinafore, tailored trousers or even a simple shirt can bring a little Highland character into your everyday wardrobe.

Making a Statement at the Round Table

Claudia Winkleman wearing black tailored outfits and suiting in Celebrity Traitors

Dark, sharply tailored outfits have become part of the show's atmosphere: a little mysterious, beautifully considered and always with a hint of drama.

There's plenty of inspiration here for anyone who enjoys dressmaking with a more tailored finish. Think long-line waistcoats, wide-leg trousers, fitted jackets and matching separates in fine wool suiting. You don't have to make a complete suit, either. A beautifully cut pair of trousers in a quality flannel can be just as effective, especially with a simple black shirt or knit.

For this look, we've chosen the subtle green and black check of Tinker Tailor, a classic brown pinstripe from Taylor & Lodge and the deep green tones of Worsted Wool Flannel – Jeremy. All three would make lovely additions to a handmade autumn wardrobe.

The Dark Art of Dressing Up

Claudia Winkleman in dramatic black eveningwear and textured occasion outfits

When the occasion calls for something a little more theatrical, Claud'smore than happy to oblige. From sweeping black silhouettes to richly textured fabrics, her evening looks are a masterclass in making an entrance.

It's the perfect excuse to get a little adventurous with your next sewing project. Black duchess satin has the body and smooth finish for a striking skirt or structured dress, while a richly patterned brocade can turn even a relatively simple garment into something rather special. We particularly love the idea of a dramatic full skirt, a fitted waistcoat or an elegant evening jacket.

After all, if there's one thing we've learnt from Claudia, it's that sometimes more really is more.

Will You Be Faithful to the Fabric?

Whether you're drawn to Claudia's traditional wool tailoring, her much-loved tartans or those dramatic all-black outfits, there's no shortage of inspiration to take from this year's Celebrity Traitors wardrobe.

What we particularly love is how wearable so many of these looks can be. A well-made blazer, a practical waxed jacket or a beautiful pair of wool trousers will earn their place in your wardrobe long after the final banishment. And if you fancy making something a little more extravagant, we certainly won't tell.

We've brought together a selection of fabrics inspired by the show, so you can create a look worthy of the castle, with or without the cloak and dagger.
