Sewing with Cotton: Our Favourite for the Season Ahead
There’s a reason cotton is the fabric we return to time and time again. It’s dependable without being boring, easy to sew without feeling basic, and versatile enough to carry you from the last of winter straight into spring. As the light changes and we start thinking about lighter layers, cotton comes into its own.
Over the past few weeks we’ve added a wide mix of new cotton prints, textures and staples to the collection, from crinkled seersuckers to smooth lawns and soft needlecord. If you’re planning your next make, now feels like the perfect moment to revisit this much-loved fibre.
New Cotton Batiks Full of Colour
Our new batik cottons are all about colour and character. They’ve got that hand-finished look that makes even a simple pattern feel special, the sort of fabric you keep noticing as you sew it. Think easy tops, statement shirts, gathered skirts, lightweight dresses, and colourful linings for jackets or bags. If you like prints that don’t feel mass-produced, batik is a proper treat.
Lots of Lovely Seersucker
Our expanding range of seersucker has been a real highlight. With its natural crinkle and easy-care finish, it adds instant texture without any extra work. Classic stripes such as Sky Stripe, Glacial Blue and Sage sit alongside pastel checks and botanical designs.
Seersucker is ideal for relaxed shirts, simple dresses and everyday pieces that don’t need much styling. Layer it now under jumpers and jackets, then wear it on its own as the weather softens.
Cotton Poplin Seersucker
For a slightly crisper feel, cotton poplin seersucker offers structure with lightness. It presses neatly, holds its shape well and works beautifully for shirt dresses, co-ords and blouses. Some lines are OEKO-TEX certified, adding reassurance alongside good design. It’s a reliable cloth that behaves well from cutting table to final press.
Pennine Cotton Lawn
Cotton lawn is always a favourite for this transitional period. Our Pennine cotton lawn is semi-sheer, breathable and available in a refreshed palette that feels just right for spring sewing. It gathers softly and drapes gently, making it ideal for blouses, tiered dresses and layering pieces that won’t feel bulky.
Soft Cottons with Stripe
Stripes work beautifully in cotton because the weave keeps the lines crisp and clean. If you’re after something timeless, striped cotton shirtings are hard to beat; great for shirts, shirt dresses, summer pyjamas and simple tops that you’ll wear on repeat. We’ve got a mix too, from softer, looser weaves to sharper shirting stripes, including multi-colour options that do all the talking.
Our Latest Pima Cotton Lawn
If you enjoy a finer, smoother handle, our newest Pima cotton lawn prints bring crisp detail and a slightly silkier touch. Florals and inky designs look particularly sharp on this base, offering definition without heaviness. It’s practical enough for everyday wear but refined enough for something a little special.
Fresh Cotton Needlecords
Cotton needlecord is a sensible bridge between seasons. Warm without being heavy, it’s well suited to overshirts, pinafores and relaxed trousers. These are the pieces you can layer now and continue wearing well into spring.
Beautiful Embroidered Cotton
For added texture, our embroidered cottons and double gauze bring subtle stitched detail to a soft, breathable base. They’re comfortable to wear and easy to style, working well for blouses and dresses where movement and comfort matter.
