Fruit and food prints have a habit of being written off as novelty fabric, but that undersells what's actually available. Most fruit print ranges elsewhere sit in stretch or costume fabric, aimed squarely at the dancewear market rather than dressmaking. This collection is different: it spans proper dressmaking weights, linen, viscose, cotton lawn, seersucker, alongside the lighter craft cottons, so a lemon or cherry print can genuinely anchor a dress or a shirt, not just a tea towel.

The prints range from crisp, graphic citrus repeats to softer, painterly berry and mixed fruit designs, so there's a fair bit of scope for how bold or subtle the finished piece ends up.

Types of fruit and food fabric

Are fruit and food prints only suitable for children's clothes?

No. While they work well for children's sewing, several of the fabric types in this collection, particularly linen, viscose and cotton lawn, are dressmaking weights suited to adult garments as well. The print reads as playful rather than childish when kept to a well-made, structured piece.

How do I care for printed fruit and food fabrics?

Wash at 30 or 40 degrees on a gentle cycle, inside out where possible, unless the care label states otherwise. Linen will crease more than cotton or viscose; this is normal rather than a fault.

Are these fabrics suitable for quilting and craft projects as well as dressmaking?

Yes. The cotton-weight prints in particular are popular for quilting, patchwork, bunting and bags, while the linen and viscose options are better suited to garments.

Do the fruit prints repeat at a scale that needs matching?

Most fruit and food prints in this collection are scattered, non-directional designs, so they don't need careful pattern matching at the seams in the way a stripe or check would.
