It’s still very much fleece weather, which makes this a good time to share some new fleece fabrics that have just arrived. We’re also looking at how they fit in with our faux fur fabrics and recommending a few dress patterns we think work really well with these materials.
Take a look at our Fibre Mood fleece fabrics .
New In: Fleece Feels
Our new soft fleeces come in five different prints and have a 280gsm weight, giving warmth without bulk and making them comfortable to wear and straightforward to sew.
Fleece fabric is especially well suited to:
• relaxed dresses and casual garments
• loungewear and comfort clothing
• children’s makes
• blankets and easy-care projects
Fleece fabric works particularly well with dress patterns that have simple shapes and relaxed fits. Styles such as sweatshirt dresses, loose tunics, oversized jumpers and easy pull-on garments all suit fleece well, especially when comfort is key.
Croft Mill Recommends: Patterns for Fleece
When sewing with fleece, we recommend choosing dress patterns with minimal fastenings and uncomplicated construction. Fleece doesn’t fray, so it’s forgiving to work with, and it holds its shape well in casual designs.
Patterns designed for knit or stretch fabrics often translate well to fleece, especially for garments intended for layering or everyday wear.

Faux Fur Fabrics: Lora, Etta & Evangeline
Alongside the new fleeces, we’re highlighting our faux fur fabrics: Lora (black and nude), Etta (black) and Evangeline (camel and black). Each adds warmth and texture, making them a cosy but wearable choice for winter sewing.
Fur fabric works particularly well for:
• jackets and gilets
• collars, cuffs and trims
• statement outer layers
• cosy accessories
Whether used as a main fabric or as a feature detail, faux fur brings impact without the need for complicated pattern shapes, allowing simple designs to really shine.

Faux Fur-Backed Corduroy Fleece
Have you seen our faux fur-backed corduroy fleece fabric? Available in a small range of colours; they combine a soft cord fleece face with a plush faux fur backing, giving it plenty of warmth and a lovely feel.
With a substantial 430gsm weight, this fabric is ideal for:
• jackets and coats
• dressing gowns
• cosy loungewear
• warm layering pieces
It’s a great option if you’re looking for something that feels substantial without being stiff, and works well with simple outerwear and relaxed clothing patterns where comfort and warmth are key.
100% Merino Wool
Honestly, our 100% merino wool works beautifully for warm but wearable winter layers. It has a soft handle and natural warmth without feeling heavy, making it a great option for garments you’ll reach for day after day.
This fabric is particularly well suited to simple, well-cut patterns, and we think it pairs especially nicely with the Tessuti Kyoto Vest. The clean lines of the pattern allow the quality of the merino to shine, resulting in a practical layering piece that works over shirts, dresses or knitwear.
We hope this post has given you a bit of fabric inspiration, whether you’re looking at what’s new or revisiting some familiar favourites in the collection. Thank you for reading, and we hope your winter sewing is keeping you warm and busy.
