Boiled Wool Fabrics

Boiled wool fabric is a dense, felted wool cloth created through heat and agitation, resulting in a stable fabric with minimal fraying and a soft, slightly textured finish. It is warm, durable and easy to sew, making it a popular choice for coats, jackets and unlined garments.

Unlike traditional woven wool, boiled wool has very little stretch on the cut edge and does not require finishing, which makes it particularly suitable for simple tailoring and structured outerwear. If you are comparing different wool types or looking for alternative weights, explore our full range of Wool Fabrics for suiting, coating and traditional woven cloth options.

What is boiled wool?
Boiled wool is a knit wool or wool-blend fabric that has been agitated with hot water in a process known as fulling. This shrinks the fibres and creates a dense, felted cloth. The result is a warm fabric that resists fraying and, when cared for correctly, should not shrink further.

Why choose boiled wool?
Boiled wool is suitable for coats, jackets and simple outerwear projects. It is warm yet breathable, durable and relatively easy to sew because the edges do not fray. Its structure makes it ideal for clean, minimal finishes and unlined garments.

What colours does boiled wool come in?
Our boiled wool fabrics are available in a range of colours, from classic neutrals and earthy tones to richer seasonal shades, depending on current stock.

Why choose our boiled wool?
We focus on sourcing quality wool fabrics at sensible prices. Our boiled wool selection is chosen for warmth, handle and reliability, making it a practical option for everyday winter sewing.
