Description

Bold, brilliant royal blue brings a wonderful splash of colour to this luxurious 100% Australian virgin wool. Rich, vibrant and beautifully saturated, it's a proper statement blue, with none of the muted tones you might expect from traditional winter coating. The wool has a softly felted, slightly fuzzy surface and a substantial 380–420gsm weight, giving it a wonderfully warm, dense handle with enough body to create beautifully shaped garments.

For anyone who likes their winter wardrobe with a little personality, this is an absolute winner. Imagine a striking royal blue coat over a simple black outfit, a boxy cropped jacket with oversized buttons or a cosy coatigan that brightens even the greyest November morning. The colour looks fabulous with black, winter white, charcoal and even contrasting orange. Warm, practical and impossible to overlook, this is wool that certainly won't disappear into the background.

Care & washing

Boiled Wool is a purely natural fabric. It has a natural lanolin protection which makes woollen products so easy to care for. Boiled wool needs to be dry/steam/fresh air cleaned.

  • If a boiled wool coat has just got slightly dirty, it is fine to shake or brush it out very carefully using a fine haired brush that will not damage the wool.
  • To get rid of unwanted smells in boiled wool garments, place them in the bathroom when you take a shower. The air humidity has a "self-cleaning" effect on wool.

Steaming to keep the fabric fresh

Please note: test on a small piece first to see how your fabric reacts to heat. Use a low heat with steam.

  • Steaming your wool fabric using an iron should be carried out in a methodical no rush way to ensure all areas of the fabric are covered.
  • Set the iron to a wool setting and hold the iron approximately 1.5cm/1 inch above the fabric. Hold the iron there for around five seconds before moving on to the next section.

Good to know

  • If you are in any doubt about care instructions please always test a sample first to find the most suitable way to wash your chosen fabrics, as we cannot accept liability for fabrics washed or treated incorrectly.
  • Whilst every effort is made, we cannot guarantee that the colours you see on our screen are accurate because every screen is calibrated differently and settings are set differently.
  • All sizes and measurement for fabrics washed or treated are approximate.

I love boiled wool and have purchased coats and also made various clothes with it. I recently received the boiled wool shown above which is a beautiful shade of Royal blue and today I ordered more. The quality of the material is first class and I am happy to recommend it. My next planned purchase is more boiled wool to make a Tremont jacket from the Sewing Workshop. It is easy to sew and also easy to wear with thick sweaters and jeans or more dressed up.
