What Is Tencel™ and Lyocell?

Tencel™ is a brand name for lyocell, a fibre within the viscose family made from wood pulp cellulose. Lyocell is the generic fibre name, while Tencel™ refers to lyocell produced to specific manufacturing standards using a closed-loop process that recycles water and solvents.

Both offer a smooth finish, breathable comfort and excellent moisture absorption, making them popular choices for modern dressmaking.

How Is Tencel™ Different from Regular Viscose?

Compared to standard viscose, Tencel™ and lyocell fabrics often feel slightly smoother and more stable while still maintaining soft drape. They provide movement without feeling overly lightweight, which makes them suitable for garments that need both fluidity and structure.
